My Story
My name is Ruperto but most people call me JR. I am proudly born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and I currently live there, in Oakland. For fun, I enjoy running, cycling, and playing capoeira. I'm a product designer with a specialization in cloud, big data, analytics, & AI domains. I’ve also worked in the financial and video gaming industries. I have been doing UX design for 10 years and before that, digital visual design for 6 years, and software development for 3 years. All in all, I've developed a very diverse set of skills and experiences you won’t find in a lot of people.

My career journey
OCT 2023–PRESENT
I lead end-to-end, cross-functional design efforts to scale their observability platform to new verticals by establishing a clear vision for leveraging their technology, ML/AI, design systems, and data visualizations.
JAN 2022–JAN 2023
I worked on Workday's Career Hub to help users realize their career potential. I led design efforts to evolve their career exploration experience to leverage generative AI.
NOV 2019–DEC 2021
Innovating products for cloud computing platforms for enterprises. I led design on data preparation and ingestion applications for AWS Glue.
MAY 2019–OCT 2019
I worked on their virtual assistant platform, designing the chat component system and conversation user experiences.
MAY 2017–MAY 2019
As part of Digital Customer Experience, I designed features for the Chase mobile banking app, focusing primarily on service design.
MAY 2013–MAR 2017
I contributed to several mobile games, shipped world-wide, doing UX, UI, art direction, animation and development.
APR 2011–MAY 2013
I contracted with digital agencies, working on mobile apps, social media apps, and web sites. During this time, I also developed my own mobile application which was a top paid download on the App Store.
JAN 2010–MAR 2011
I had the opportunity to work on several award-winning marketing campaigns for the entertainment industry, ranging from social media apps, web sites, and tradeshow installations.
OCT 2007–JAN 2010
I was involved with several high profile digital marketing campaigns for clients like the UFC, ESPN, Honda, Disney, Toyota, and Sony, designing web sites, online videos, and motion graphics.
MAY 2005–APR 2006
I had an internship and then design role, working on features for the CNET web site.
